Doritos Toro Habanero
March 9th, 2009 Posted in Food
I just picked up a bag of Doritos Toro Habanero at the grocery store. I can’t tell if this is a rebranding of their Fiery Habanero chips, but the Toro seem to be a little spicier and cheesier. I might just have to get a bag of each to compare. Each bite gives a temporary respite from the heat only to be replaced with a lingering and enjoyable burn.
I couldn’t find them online but if they aren’t a limited trial, Amazon might have them soon.
Warning: If you think the Fire sauce at Taco Bell is hot, then maybe you should pass on these.

i just tried these chips and was pleasantly surprised as well; I have complained for years that big name companies will not cater to chili heads, and after eating some of these I have renewed my faith!

The Habenero Limon potato chips also pack a bit of a punch. A small handful will easily satisfy my taste for a snack.

Since I was hooked on Doritos Fiery Habanero one can imagine how disappointed I was to find out they were discontinued. HOWEVER, Doritos has redeemed itself with the new Doritos Toro Habanero. Thanks Doritos, another great product for us chili heads!

Hello Anton,
Awesome blog – Congrats! The Doritos Toro is a new product from Sabritas (by Frito-Lay, Inc.) that came out this year. They have a great kick in part to the combination of many different kinds of cheese and also the habanero chile pepper as the main spice ingredient. For those who can’t get them locally, YES, you can buy them online here:

Enjoy!

“I can’t tell if this is a rebranding of their Fiery Habanero chips” I don’t think they are, or if they are, like you said they are modified a bit. I didnt like the Fiery Habanero, I didnt think they were all that hot (literally and figuratively), and the flavor was bland, Toro on the other hand… yum!

They definitely aren’t a re-branding of the Fiery Habenaro. The flavor is better and they pack a lot more heat than any main-stream American food.
If you can find any of the Sabritas branded chips, try the Habanero Limon and Chile Piquin potato chips too.

I cant find them anywhere? Any suggestions where i can order them online?

I have seen them in a number of stores that carry the Sabritas brand. It is usually separate from the other Lays products.
They are available at a few Mexican grocers online, including the one linked in the comments above.

I can’t wait for Doritos to release a Naga Jolokia (Bhut Jolokia) chip. I grow my own habaneros (the red nasty ones that are SOOO good) so these Toro Doritos are tame, like Nacho Cheese or Taco flavors were to me as a toddler. No knocks– I love the Toro chips, but I don’t call them “hot” by my taste buds. I’m a diehard and insane chilihead. However– if someone is not used to hot chili flavor, they probably do pack a punch.

I just bought 2 bags of Fiery Habanero Doritos at a Publix in the Tampa area! Is it possible that have brought these back?? If it is, I’m thrilled!! I ate 1/2 the bag immediately.

The Fiery Habañero aren’t as hot as the Toro. The regular grocer has quit carrying the Toro here, but I can get them from the Mexican grocery store.
