Boudreaux the Baptist

October 24th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Humor

Boudreaux the Baptist
Boudreaux, a Cajun highlander from Rapides Parish in central Louisiana, was
an older, single gentleman, who was born and raised a Baptist, living in
South Louisiana. Each Friday night after work, he would fire up his outdoor
grill and cook a venison steak.  Now, all of Boudreaux’s neighbors were
Catholic… and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on
Fridays.  The delicious aroma from the grilled venison  steaks was causing
such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they  finally talked to their
priest.

The priest came to visit Boudreaux, and suggested that Boudreaux convert to
Catholicism.  After several
classes and much study, Boudreaux attended Mass… and as the priest
sprinkled holy water over him, he said, “You were born a Baptist and raised
a Baptist, but now you are Catholic.”

Boudreaux’s neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and
the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood.  The priest
was called immediately by the neighbors and, as he rushed into Boudreaux’s
yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped in amazement
and watched.  There stood Boudreaux, clutching a small bottle of water which
he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat, and chanted:
“You wuz born a deer, and you wuz raised a deer, but now you a catfish.”

Adobe Labs – Downloads: Flash Player 9 Update

Yipee, the Flash Player beta is out for Linux.

  1. Get the Installer for Linux
  2. tar xzvf FP9_plugin_beta_101806.tar.gz
  3. cd flash-player-plugin-9.0.21.55
  4. locate libflashplayer.so (On Ubuntu it’s often in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/)
  5. sudo cp /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/backup.libflashplayer.so
  6. sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so
  7. restart firefox and you should be good to go.

The audio lag in movies seems to be gone now.  Not certain about stability yet, but it can’t be worse than before.

Pentax K100D 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

I’ve finally made a decision on which camera to buy. Now I just need to scrounge up the cash.

It’s got a nice set of features, includung in body shake reduction and a good image processor. While it’s only 6.1MP it’s price ($624) is hard to argue with and it’ll get me back to taking pictures sooner.

[update] Scott upgraded to a Canon EOS 30D so I’m buying his old camera, a Canon Rebel.

SPAM subject of the day.
Does this imply that I am a nerd?  Can Hypnosis really help me?  Am I really interested in a help?  The world may never know, the answer now lies deep inside /dev/null.

A simple project to read a POT and control a couple LEDs using the very cool looking and cheap Arduino.

Maybe the Arduino could be used to implement something like the DaysAgo Timer.

Or maybe find one of the USB Interface chips to build something fun like the USB Hampster Wheel that responds to your typing.
